Answers to the most frequently asked questions:
Do we guarantee our work? Absolutely! Please see our Guarantee page.
Why don’t we quote prices? There are too many unknown factors to be able to quote a valid price on the web site, by e-mail or by phone. Some of the many items that affect the price of the house include:
- Materials prices change about every 2 weeks or whenever the supplier gets the next delivery. In the last 6 months of 2008 the prices for basic building materials (concrete and steel) rose over 18%. By the time we publish a price, it would be out of date.
- You define the quality level and we build to that specification. We do not cut corners and that includes: professional services, materials, or skilled labor. We guarantee our work and accordingly will not build anything to a lower standard. So, until we understand exactly what you want, we are unable to price it out.
- The lot location is critical. Is it on the side of a hill or on a flat plain? Will retaining walls be required? How will the foundation be laid out? All of these have huge impacts on the final prices.
- Soil conditions are vitally important. Where is the hard pan and will a septic field function properly without extensive soil treatment?
- Beach locations have a premium of 40% or more. Everything, including the labor comes from the central valley. That means additional transportation costs to bring in materials and labor plus living expenses.
- Personal tastes can easily double the price. Things such as tile, granite, bathroom fixtures, custom carved doors, cathedral ceiling, etc. all make a significant difference in price.
- Funny things that you don’t think about are part of the equation. Things like the weather plays a big part in our construction costs.
It all comes down to what do YOU want in YOUR custom home? There are many builders that that deliver one type of home (they choose the design, materials, colors etc.) and call themselves “custom builders” because they let you choose the cabinets or ceiling fans. We build houses from the ground up to YOUR requirements and specifications. Until we know what you want, we cannot design it or price it.
If after reading all of this you write us requesting a price per square foot or meter, we will respectfully tell you that we probably are not the type of builder you want to work with. If you are shopping to a builder based solely on the cost per square foot or meter then we are not the right construction company for you.
What comes standard with a CRBuilders house?
Since everything is custom it is hard to answer that question. The best we can do is refer you to what we are including in our spec homes in our Sarchi development.
Why Costa Rica? There are dozens of books that talk about living in Costa Rica. Our favorite is the Lonely Planet Guide to Costa Rica found at most any book store or online at www.amazon.com or www.barnesandnoble.com. Whether you are looking for a place to retire, a vacation home or wanted a change of lifestyle, you owe it to yourself to investigate Costa Rica. Also don’t forget to read our sometimes amusing but hopefully informative site about Living and Building in Costa Rica.
